Termite Mound Incubators
Female Lace Monitors use termite mounds to incubate their eggs by tearing a hole in the side of the mound and allowing the termites to seal the eggs inside. The termites inside help create a perfect temperature for the eggs and a tasty food source for newly hatched young.

Tree Lovers
Lace Monitors are sometimes called the Tree Goanna due to their exceptional climbing abilities. If alarmed they are likely to quickly climb up the nearest tree using their powerful claws.

To see this species in the wild, we suggest Enoggera reservoir, Queensland.
